Local Monitoring

The A-1 Security Central Station uses the most modern computer and telecommunication technology in combination with highly trained human operators to analyze and respond to electronic signals originating from customer alarm systems installed in homes and businesses.

Alarm signals from customer systems originate in sensors located on the premises: smoke detectors, motion detectors, glassbreak detectors, and door & window contacts. The alarm system then automatically initiates communication with the Central Station, either through the normal telephone system or by radio transmission. Some alarm systems use both.

After initial analysis by the computer, all information about the customer system and the current alarm signal is automatically sent to a highly trained human operator for further evaluation and action. Although computers are important, the human element is vital in providing A-1 Security customers with the best possible service. That special touch of a caring operator can make all the difference in re-assuring a frightened child or confused elderly person.

The operator then analyzes all information from the computer, from contacting individuals at the premises and other designated persons. Then the appropriate action is taken by the operator which may include contacting Police, Fire, or Medical authorities as directed by the computer database information for each individual customer. Additional contact is made with authorities and responsible persons throughout the handling of the alarm event until a final resolution is achieved. All actions taken by the operators are automatically logged in the computer database with exact date and times. All voice communication between the operators and all other persons is digitally recorded and time stamped to provide complete documentation of the handling of all alarm events.

The A-1 Security Central Station uses dual redundant computers running the industry standard software, Alarms 1, by Micro Key. Either of the computers is capable of performing the entire computing task of A-1 Security, both monitoring and accounting. If the operating computer were to fail, the standby computer is activated in seconds with no loss of information or processing capability.

Electrical power to the entire Central Station is derived from dual-redundant Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS's) which are fed from either commercial electric power or from our own natural gas-powered 20,000 watt generator. This system has allowed the Central Station to remain in operation for days during storms when the surrounding areas were without electrical power.

The A-1 Security Central Station is a combination of the newest technology and highly trained human operators, all focused on providing our customers with the very best in alarm monitoring services.
